The road to the village of Tougbo for the ordination of the pastor (see Linn's journal entry) was the second worst road I have traveled so far in my 26 years in Africa (The worst was the road to Sanga back in 1984 - 3 hours to go 40 miles). I had to get out from time-to-time to survey the road and to decide which part was the "best" to go over.

Even then, it was not easy. It took us 7 hours to go the 102 miles to Tougbo. That's an average of 14.5 miles per hours!

We came to places where the passengers had to get out to lighten the load. But even then, it was rough going over some places where the road had been cut deep by the rain.

More then once, the van hit bottom just inching over the bad places.

We would all pile in and go until we got to the next bad spot - more then likely just a few hundred feet further.

All the long travel was worth it as we spent the night and the next morning celebrated the ordination and consecration of the pastor. Here he is walking in procession with his wife escorted in song by the youth group.

In Ivory Coast, you have to include music and dance in a Christian celebration - otherwise it is not a celebration. The Lobi people have a unique dance - hard to discribe - read Linn's journal.

The young, old, men, and women participated in the joy of the event.
